Sixteen Capital Football clubs have learnt their fate as they look to emulate Olympic's dream FFA Cup run, with nine games standing between them and Cup glory.

Olympic were the last National Premier League club standing in 2016 with their dream run culminating in a semi-final clash against A-League powerhouse Sydney FC.

Capital Football's treble winners will kick off their Federation Cup defence with a home game against State League outfit the Goulburn Strikers.

The FFA Cup qualifying tournament is slowly becoming the pinnacle of Canberra soccer, because no other competition can match the exposure that comes with playing against A-League clubs.

The league winners (top of the table) play in the nationwide NPL finals, but neither that nor winning a grand final provides the FFA Cup's level of exposure.

But it goes beyond local NPL clubs, with two State League and five Capital League sides still in the mix.

"This is almost like the jewel in the crown. It's mid-season but I'll tell you now, I think everyone will be going hard at winning this competition big time," Cachia said.

"This is the vehicle for any NPL club to get national exposure, so I don't think anyone would be holding anything back in this competition."

Cachia says the game in Canberra is already experiencing a knock-on effect with local talent being sought after by interstate NPL clubs.

"We've largely been forgotten because obviously we don't have a team in the A-League - outside of the women's game we're not really competing on a national stage outside of the FFA Cup," Cachia said.

"We showed when we played against Sydney FC, obviously they were the better side, it wasn't as if we rolled over or anything like that. We flew the flag for Canberra and for NPL sides.

"It's going to be hard to emulate, and whoever gets there and represents Canberra and Capital Football will have it's work cut out, but I think that's what you need to aim at.

"You need to aim high like we did, and even go better if you can - it's all possible."

The club drawn first was deemed the home side for each fixture - leaving Cachia pleased the luck of the draw meant Olympic wouldn't have to make a trip to Goulburn on a cold weeknight.

The Riverina Rhinos were the one exception to the rule, with their clash against Capital League club Weston Molonglo to be played at a 'midway' venue, which requires both clubs to travel.
