Mr Ballard was headbutted by a horse at the recent Winton Races, and needed three plates inserted around his cheek and eye.

On Sunday his son Dan thanked the community for their support.

“He’s still quite swollen, but surgeons were happy with how the operation went and hopefully his recovery will be quick.”
