Mr Katter said his office was continually bombarded with complaints on high airfare prices and poor service, with fares regularly costing more to fly one way from Mount Isa to the east coast of Australia, than it costs to purchase an international return fare.
“A lot of the time fares are purchased for funerals, family emergencies, school sports trips etc. and when you have families having to take out personal loans just to pay for the cost of airfares you know there’s a problem.”
Mr Katter has questioned the Deputy Premier and Minister for Transport Jackie Trad on when a review into regional airline fares and operations will be released.
The Long Distance Passenger Services Review was originally slated for release at the end of March 2017 still has not materialised, with the Ministers office silent on when the report will be made available.
He said it was a serious issue for Qld’s regional areas.
“While the review is delayed and the Government sits on its hands people in regional Queensland are paying exorbitant fares and putting up with flight cancellations. It’s an issue everyone living in the region is furious about and we need the Government to respond.”
