Co-organisers Bret Wessels and Scott Crawford faced separate opponents while running an event which brought in about 700 people to the Mount Isa Basketball Courts.
Crawford was punished in the ring against an opponent nine years his junior, Mark Solomon.Crawford’s shoes struggled to find grip on the ring’s surface.
He said that it had been a struggle to make up some of the numbers in the bouts due to some fighters pulling out.
Veteran Queensland boxer Les ‘Lock N Load’ Sherrington and Brophy’s boxer Beaver were among the attendees enjoying the night’s entertainment.
Crawford’s favourite fight to watch had been that between PCYC’s Luke Crumblin against late replacement Rory Lolan.
Crumblin had been described by the co-promoter as dedicated with much potential, and with experience would win many fights.
He held his own against Lolan but it was the latter who won only through a split decision.
Crawford said another event could be held in September. “That’s how people stick at it, because they know they have got something to train towards.
“We want to continue doing it. It will only strengthen the sport of boxing.”
