Canterbury coach Hasler trumpeted Foran's signing on Wednesday and conceded he will mentor the 26-year-old in his return to Sydney after the Bulldogs snapped up the premiership winner on a three-year deal from next season.

A candid Foran said he will be "fine" back in the Harbour City after agreeing to join the family club so he could be closer to his two children, despite his life unravelling last year shortly after starting a lucrative deal with the Eels.

"Things weren't great for me in Sydney and it had taken a downward spiral," Foran said. "It was out of control really.

"And being able to come to New Zealand - my homeland - and take myself out of that environment for a year has changed my life forever. I'm forever grateful to the Warriors for the opportunity.

"I'm a lot stronger person and a lot more comfortable person. I've got no doubt in my mind when I return to Sydney next year I'll be fine.

"To a certain degree I did feel a bit of loyalty [to the Warriors] and wanting to repay that. If there's one thing that can stop that it's your own blood and my own two children.

"The opportunity to move back and be closer to them and be with them on a weekly basis was something that was just too strong."

Foran will join a list of NRL journeymen including Suaia Matagi, Matt McIlwrick, Justin Hunt, Richie Fa'aoso and Adam Cuthbertson to have played for four clubs in as many seasons in the past decade.

The ex-Sea Eagle enjoys close ties with Hasler due to their time together on the northern beaches and his arrival could send a tremor through the Bulldogs squad, which is already preparing to farewell Tigers-bound Josh Reynolds at the end of the season.

Hasler was certain Foran wouldn't fall into the dark times which plagued him in Sydney last year, including a probe into his association with gambling identity Eddie Hayson.

"I coached Kieran at a younger age and have of course coached against him," Hasler said. "As I said, I think the priorities Kieran has shown are typical of his character and the way he's been able to come back and get things back on track is admirable.

"At some stage I think mentoring is always a part in any rugby league club. Most clubs will have mentors in that particular field. What I think is important is stability.

"I think, at the end of the day, as a coach any coach would have to tick that box. There's always a mentoring role for all the players."

Foran addressed his Warriors teammates on Wednesday - barely 24 hours after informing club boss Jim Doyle and coach Stephen Kearney he had made up his mind after a weekend in Australia after the Anzac Test.

"We anticipated that this could be the case and with that in mind we worked through some options at the time when we were talking with Kieran," Kearney said. "We totally understand and respect the decision."

Foran could link with Moses Mbye in the halves at the Bulldogs, who will come under salary cap pressure given Tigers captain Aaron Woods is also headed to Belmore.
