The Crime and Corruption Commission could become overwhelmed with vexatious complaints if new laws pass, Liberal National Party politicians have argued.

A new bill, being considered by a Queensland parliamentary committee, would amend the definition of corrupt conduct to remove the requirement that it be conducted to provide a benefit or cause a detriment, and widen the definition to include conduct that impaired, or could impair, confidence in public administration.
It could include collusive tendering, evading a tax or fraudulently obtaining or retaining an appointment.
But the CCC could become "overwhelmed" with vexatious complaints outside their purview, LNP members of the Legal Affairs and Community Safety committee argued.
"In determining the merit of complaints raised with the CCC, considerable resources may be utilised and effectively wasted in determining what needs to be investigated," the LNP MPs wrote in a statement of reservation in the committee's report.
"In that context, important issues that should be investigated may be delayed or deferred in the administration of the CCC."
They said the new definition of corrupt conduct may cause the CCC to become "bogged down in minutiae" or issues that did not need to be investigated.
The LNP MPs - Michael Crandon, Jann Stuckey and Jon Krause - pointed out the Queensland Law Society was concerned the new definition was "exceptionally broad" and might be interpreted too broadly.
However, they said they did not cast aspersions with the professionalism of the CCC.
The bill would also extend the CCC's jurisdiction to allow it to investigate conduct connected with corruption, or liable to allow, encourage or cause corrupt conduct, and investigate whether the conduct may have happened, was happening or may happen in the future.
The committee recommended the bill be passed.
The Crime and Corruption and Other Legislation Amendment Bill is due for debate later this year.
A spokeswoman for Attorney-General Yvette D'Ath said the government would consider the report and the committee's comments.
It comes after a Senate Select Committee was told the anti-corruption aspects of the CCC began to be "whittled down" under the former Newman government, which prioritised its organised crime function.
Griffith University governance and public policy expert Professor AJ Brown said there was a "skewing" of the commission through government policy.
But he said over time the CCC appeared to have managed the conflict between its obligations well.
