Solicitor Warren Hunter also said his young male client was in custody in the Townsville Correctional Centre when police completed a search warrant of his normal address in April.
Mr Hunter said the charges against his client would be downgraded. “He’s a 17-year-old in an adult prison and these charges in normal events would not attract normal custody.”
Police prosecutor Sergeant Karen Hall objected to bail.
Magistrate Scott Luxton granted bail for the defendant saying that he was entitled to bail under the circumstances.
The matter was adjourned to 2pm, Tuesday, May 23, in time for Mr Hunter to defend against the downgraded charges. The defendant’s appearance was required.
