The remnants of the rain hit the Gold Coast during Friday evening and was expected to move offshore overnight, with Brisbane only expecting a few light showers.

Proserpine broke its wettest May day record with 111 millimetres rainfall on Thursday, while Collinsville also broke its wettest May day record at 120 millimetres.

Townsville was given sweet relief after recording more than 115 millimetres from 9am Thursday, nearly four times the May average.

In the south-east, Pacific Pines on the Gold Coast copped a drenching on Friday recording a total of 76 millimetres, while Torbanlea near Maryborough saw 68 millimetres fall.

As rain eased along the central Queensland coastline by Friday, Brisbane's northern suburbs were hit with heavy rain and received up to 50 millimetres.

However, the city did not get anywhere near the 30 to 60 millimetres that was predicted on Thursday.

"It is just rain that is continuous rather than heavy periods of rain," Bureau of Meteorology's James Thompson said.

"To get the heavier stuff we need some thunderstorms to form but not expecting too many, if any."

A total of 13 millimetres had fallen across the city since 9am on Thursday.

Bribie Island received 109 millimetres since 9am Thursday, while Caboolture was hit with approximately 50mm.

Mr Thompson said the majority of the rain would move offshore by Saturday.

"(There will be) possible showers with lingering moisture and tops of low to mid 20 degrees," he said.

"That is pretty similar from the Sunny Coast down to the Gold Coast."

A minor flood warning remains in place for the Haughton River Catchment and Don River in north Queensland.

A flood watch remains in place for coastal catchments and south-west Queensland.
