Committing to $10,000 in funding for upcoming events, Mayor Joyce McCulloch said it was important for Council to support the race club.
“The racing industry is very important to Mount Isa and a lot of people are heavily invested, professionally and socially,” Cr McCulloch said.
“These events bring this community together as well as bringing people into the city, so economic stimulus is a major factor here.”
Race Club President Dan Ballard said since the club’s AGM at the end of September a key factor was to increase the revenue stream for the Club by attracting local sponsorship.
“We have had a number of dealings with Council and we know that they are behind the Race Club and supportive of what we are trying to achieve,” Mr Ballard said.
The Mount Isa Cup Race Day will be held on June 3, with local races beginning at 1pm.
