Mount Isa School of the Air held a gathering of students for its annual athletics day at Kruttschnitt Oval in May. Around 120 students from stations met their North West Queensland counterparts for a full day of sport and games.

The two houses, O’Sullivan and Riley competed in yellow and blue in the shot put, javelin, ball games, vortex, throwing, and relay sprints.
School of the air meets just twice a year sports day home tutor week and sports day.
Students visiting from outside Mount Isa had the opportunity to try out for regional events in athletics, swimming, team sports.
The extra curricular activities make up part of School of the Air’s program for remote students.
Sports facilitator and teacher Brideon Schloss said it was a good chance to have all the students together.
“Maybe the younger ones haven’t met first to face, because it’s early in the year,” Ms Schloss said.
“Most of them would have met each other, but for some of the younger ones it might be their first time meeting in person,” she said.
The older students went on to school camp at Adel’s Grove and Magnetic Island the following week.
