Keen home bakers on the staff whipped up a storm with hundreds of cakes, cookies, scones and slices on offer.
The Cancer Care unit supports Cancer Council Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea each year.
All the staff and many of the patients brought in baking, as well as sales staff from surrounding shops.
Nurse Unit Manager for the Cancer Care Unit, Rebecca Young, said the event had already raised more than $1000 on Tuesday morning, which was well up from $700 last year.
The morning tea also featured a mega raffle with generously donated items from local businesses, and a money board.
Ms Young said the much-needed funds will help Queenslanders affected by cancer, but also highlighted the services at Mount Isa Hospital.
“Our door is always open for all patients undergoing cancer treatment and their families,” Ms Young said.
“They can come in any time if they need any emotional support. We can provide one-on-one care because we are small.”
“All the chemo can be done here and if there’s something we can’t provide, we arrange their travel for them.”
