She was charged with serious assault of a police officer and with disorderly and offensive behaviour, said Mount Isa Police Station’s officer-in-charge, Senior Sergeant Renee Hanrahan.
Flight attendees had difficulty with the passenger on a Qantas flight from Brisbane to Mount Isa when an off-duty police officer identified himself and offered to help the situation. He experienced injuries to a finger.
Snr Sgt Hanrahan said that there was an “extra element” against the accused woman’s alleged criminal behaviour. It was a safety risk in a confined space and in mid-flight. The woman is alleged to have failed civil aviation regulations and is scheduled to appear before the Mount Isa Magistrates Court on Monday, June 12.
A Qantas spokeswoman confirmed a passenger had been disruptive to other passengers and crew members, and contacted police to meet the aircraft on arrival.
“To ensure all of our flights are safe and comfortable for our passengers we don’t tolerate disruptive behaviour onboard,” she said.
