Premiers Cloncurry are at home for their third successive match and this weekend take on Wanderers.
Fans who watched the Eagles take on Normanton last weekend as part of the Arthur Beetson junior rugby league carnival enjoyed a terrific spectacle.
The two sides went hammer and tongs at each other for the entire 80 minutes and at the end the sides could not be separated with scores locked at 40-40.
This week should see another close tussle with the game scheduled for 6pm.
The result leaves Normanton on top of the ladder and this week they are back home at Stingers Oval where they take on cellar dwellers Brothers who have won just one game this season.
Kick off is at 6pm and Normanton will be heavily fancied to add another win to their ledger.
In the final game on Saturday, Black Stars take on Town Devils at Alec Inch Oval in what is the only game in Mount Isa this weekend.
Kick off at Alec Inch Oval is at 4pm and the Starries will be hoping to continue improvements seen this season though beating Townies will be a tough ask.
Black Stars beat Brothers last weekend in Round 6, their second win over Brothers this season after their thrilling come-from-behind 34-28 win in Round 1 when they scored three tries in the last 10 minutes.
The second meeting of the sides was less of a cliffhanger but it was another entertaining game last Saturday.
Black Stars beat Brothers last weekend in round 6, their second win over Brothers this season after their thrilling come-from-behind 34-28 win in round 1
The Starries opened the scoring on eight minutes with a cheeky intercept, but Brothers’ speedy young guns opened up the Black Stars line a few minutes later for their first four pointer.
Brothers carved up Starries again in exhilarating fashion to grab two more tries to extend their lead to 14-6.
But the Starries regrouped and grabbed the next three tries.
They went into the break with a handy lead of 24-14 though Brothers could consider themselves unlucky a couple of key refereeing decisions went against them.
They came out hard in the second half to reduce the margin to six points with a length of the field try but that was as close as they would get.
Brothers were caught out by a sneaky 10 metre restart with Starries getting possession and and planting the ball under the posts a few tackles later.
Brothers tried manfully to stay in the game but Black Stars kicked on and eventually ran out winners by 16 points. Final score: 48-32.
Accurate conversion kicking was the main difference between the sides with Starries kicking eight from eight conversions while Brothers kicked just two from seven.
