Brisbane Airport is on the hunt for its next artist-in-residence and has decided to move away from traditional artforms and hand over the reins to somebody who takes plastic bricks seriously.

The prospective Lego builder would be contracted to the airport for a 12-month period under a flexible hours system to build a minimum of two large-scale pieces to be put on display.

According to the applicant requirements, you would also need to be available for "occasional coffee", public workshops, planning sessions and corporate appearances.

The hours would be flexible and paid with the only catch being you would have to bring your own Lego bricks, or have resources you can pull from.

The artist-in-residence program at the airport has been running since 2015 and kicked off with realist painter Robert Brownhall, who created work influenced by the airport.

In 2016, the Queensland Symphony Orchestra took up the artist-in-residence role and held six "pop-up" performances at the international and domestic terminals.

Brisbane Airport Corporation chief executive Julieanne Alroe said the sky was the limit for the chosen Lego master.

"This time we thought we'd venture outside the box of traditional art and performance and into a space that most of us have dabbled in at some stage in our life, but with a view of taking it to new heights," she said.

"From its humble beginnings, Lego has truly transcended the realms of toy boxes across the world and is growing in popularity with creative artists producing mind-boggling installations from the colourful blocks."

Applications close June 15.
