The Starries came into the game with hopes high after a good win over Brothers last weekend and were certainly competitive especially in the first half.
Indeed it could be argued that they had the better of the opening exchanges but poor execution when they had the ball in dangerous areas of the field let them down.
After Black Stars squandered a couple of early opportunities, Town made them pay speeding away on the break to land the first points of the game with 17 minutes on the clock and then repeating the dose three minutes later finding space on the right wing to lead 10-0.
Starries still kept coming at them and got their first try after a half hour of play though a fortunate bounce on 37 minutes put the Devils over again and they went into the break with a lead of 16-4.
Starries came out determined to make amends for their mistakes in the second half and were quickly on the board to reduce the deficit to six points.
However they fumbled the restart leading to an in goal kick and Town were over the line a couple of tackles later.
Back came Starries with a short kick off that caught Town off guard to score again only to concede a quick try of their own, making it four tries in eight minutes to start the half.
Starries seem to exhaust themselves in these early exhilarating exchanges and this was as close as they got.
As they tired, Town stepped up the gas and purred towards victory.
They landed the next three tries to take an unassailable lead.
To Black Stars’ credit they kept trying and landed one final try with just six minutes left on the clock.
But it was Townies day and they had time for two more late tries with one on the siren, to which Marty Paulson continued his good day with the boot adding the extras.
It finished Town 50, Black Stars 18, a blowout and a harsh lesson for Starries about what they need to do to match the better sides in the Mount Isa competition.
