And Australian international Aaron Mooy is set to play a key role for his club, Huddersfield Town, when the Terriers take on Reading in the Championship play-off final at Wembley Stadium in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

For the winner comes entry to the promised land, the English Premier League, and with it the riches that brings.

For the loser comes an off-season of pain and disappointment and the grim knowledge that having come so close and failed, all that awaits is the certainty of another gruelling campaign over 46 games next season as the club tries to make up for this failure.

An analysis in the Telegraph in London this time last year broke down the financial benefits of gaining promotion to the EPL through the play-offs and calculated that the single season boost - even if the club got relegated straight away and had to pick up the parachute payments designed to soften the fall - would be a colossal ??189.7 million. That's around $350 million.

So to say the pressure is on Mooy and his teammates to deliver is an understatement - not that the unflappable Socceroo is likely to show that he is feeling the strain.

Famously quiet, Mooy has always preferred to let his football do the talking and he rarely shows much emotion on the pitch.

But so good have been his performances in the second tier of the English game after Manchester City signed him from Melbourne City this time last year and then loaned him to Town, that he is widely held to be a major reason the Yorkshire side has been challenging for promotion all season.

Mooy was named in the Championship Team of the Season last month, a side voted for by his peers.

Pep Guardiola, Manchester City's boss, has been keeping a eye on his progress in this, his first season in England.

If Mooy doesn't go up with Huddersfield the feeling is that he will be in the Premier League anyway, if not with Town or City then with another club, as several suitors have reportedly been casting glances in his direction.

Mooy will come into camp with the Socceroos following the play-off final in buoyant mood, as will another young Australian midfielder who will be lining up for the next World Cup qualifier against Saudi Arabia in Adelaide on June 8.

And so Tom Rogic should.

The classy midfielder - dubbed the Magic Man by Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers earlier this season - scored a stoppage time winner for the Bhoys to land the Scottish Cup and crown a season for the ages for the Glasgow giants.

The Australian said after netting the late, late winner that such moments were the stuff of dreams following his mazy dribbling run, which took him past several opponents before he fired past Aberdeen goalkeeper Joe Lewis

The Socceroos star's finish put the icing on the cake of the fourth treble (Cup, League Cup and League) in Celtic's storied history and ensured their long unbeaten run of 47 domestic matches continued.

Rogic said: "I picked up the ball and just tried to be positive and space just opened up for me. It was a pretty special moment.

"It was something you dream of. You know the importance of it. It's been a long season and to do what we have done as a collective group, go unbeaten and then to seal it like that, to get the treble in the last minute of the last game of the season is something we will look back on forever."

Rogic had missed much of the campaign with injury, and started the final on the bench but came on in the first half.

And he admitted fate may have intervened as he struck the winner just as a bolt of lightning lit up the sky over Hampden during a thunderstorm.

"Someone just told me that but I didn't realise at the time," the 24-year-old said. "Maybe it was meant to be."
