Burgoyne, 34, has remained a key player for the Hawks this year and his value to the team was clear in a stellar performance during Hawthorn's six-point win over Sydney.

The four-time Premiership player gathered 26 disposals, kicked two goals and had nine score involvements at the SCG.

On Sunday he suggested he would re-assess his future. "We'll get to the bye in a couple of weeks and we will re-assess then in terms of the rest of the year, how the team is performing, injuries, whether my own form is [still good] whether to go next year or not," Burgoyne told Game Day on the Seven Network. "350 [games] would obviously mean I'd have to play next year but that's still a long way away."

Hawthorn will be forced to make some tough decisions on three of their club champion veterans before the year is out. Luke Hodge, Josh Gibson and Burgoyne are all out of contract at year's end.

Making things more difficult for the Hawks is that all three are still playing good football, although Gibson has struggled most out of the trio this year.

However Gibson, along with Hodge and Burgoyne, were crucial on Friday night against the Swans.

At the end of 2016 Hawthorn lost Sam Mitchell and Jordan Lewis to rival clubs. It is believed that the Hawks only wanted one of those two players to move on.
