The two-time Coleman Medallist injured his calf early in the last quarter of the Eagles' narrow loss to the Giants on Sunday.

Medical staff immediately iced his right calf and Kennedy took no further part in the game.

At one stage it was feared the 29-year-old sustained an Achilles tendon injury, which would have ended Kennedy's season.

West Coast coach Adam Simpson said while his spearhead would be sidelined for a couple of weeks he could be back for the Eagles' round 13 clash against the Cats at Domain Stadium.

The Eagles take on Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium on Saturday however have the bye in round 12 which means Kennedy could only miss just one match.

"If you look at the vision and the way he went down and what he heard we all feared for the worst," Adam Simpson told 7 News on Monday night.

"It's probably a bit of relief he's done a soleus (strain)... so good news so to speak, so he will miss a couple of weeks."

Kennedy's absence will be a major blow for the Eagles with the 29-year-old leading the Coleman Medal again this season with 34 goals.

West Coast have struggled to kick a winning score in the last two weeks and will have to look at swinging either Jeremy McGovern or Drew Petrie forward against the Suns or pluck inconsistent forward Tom Lamb or the untried Matthew Allen from East Perth.

Simpson said Jack Darling can stand up in Kennedy's absence.

"It's interesting thing with Jack is he's only 190 centimetres so key position forwards are hard to come by but we have a few options there with McGovern down back and Fraser McInnes at East Perth and Tom Lamb as well, so we have a few options," he said.

"It's hard to replace JK but we will find a way."

Simpson said Kennedy heard a "pop" when his calf went.

"I'm not quite sure, he's hurt his calf so I'm assuming he won't be back before the bye (after next weekend's clash with Gold Coast)," Simpson said during his post-match press conference.

"The feedback we're getting is it's a calf. I think he was a little bit worried there early on (that he hurt his Achilles), but I think it's probably calf.

"Sometimes they hurt. He heard a pop. The diagnosis at the moment is it's a calf, but it's early on so we'll see how he pulls up.

"Of course I am hopeful that's the case (that it's not too serious)."

Simpson said he expects goal sneak Mark LeCras and midfield gun Luke Shuey to return for the critical away clash against the Suns.
