NUMEROUS private barbecues and celebrations across Mount Isa undoubtedly happened on Wednesday night – at least until the Blues won 28-4.

Jessica Collins chose to celebrate her hens night. Although her dress was balanced so that it appeared she supported both Blues and Maroons, in her heart she backed the Queenslanders.
“I was born in Queensland, baby,” Ms Collins said. She was also going to be married in Queensland, or more precisely, in Mount Isa on Saturday. From then she would be known as Mrs van der Veen.
Married couple Helen and Peter Dries were wearing different coloured jerseys while watching the game at the Buffs Club’s Boomerang Cafe.
“It’s always very interesting in our household,” Mrs Dries said.
“One of our sons was born in NSW and the other son was born in Queensland. Our home was always divided by State of Origin.”
She supported blues because her parents lived in Wollongong. Mr Dries supported blues because the family have lived in Queensland longer than they did in NSW.
“And I’ve been following them since they started,” he said.
