The new committee members include; Mayor of Cloncurry Greg Campbell, Deputy Mayor of Hinchinbrook Mary Brown and Deputy Mayor of Richmond June Kuhl.
RDA Committee Acting Chair Frank Beveridge said the new team is a good reflection of the geographic area.
“We have leaders from local government, academia, small business and the general public,” Mr Beveridge said.
“While we have one of the largest areas in Queensland, we are certainly well positioned to represent the needs of the Federal Government down to the public and more importantly the needs of our communities to the Government.”
Cloncurry Mayor Greg Campbell said the RDA provided an opportunity to highlight the importance of the Cloncurry area and share opportunities with the region.
“Cloncurry’s importance to the beef, mineral and transport industries means it is ideally positioned to lead the region’s economic growth,” Cr Campbell said.
Hinchinbrook Deputy Mayor Mary Brown said she was pleased to join the committee.
“Economic development for rural and regional communities is an area where I am particularly passionate,” Ms Brown said.
“I look forward to working with the fellow Townsville and North West RDA Committee members in the future to assist in the development of these regional economies."
Richmond Deputy Mayor June Kuhl said her passion was her community and it’s socio-economic future.
“I have become a RDA committee member to do what I can to assist the growth of all of the small communities in our region and ensure that they have input and a voice,” Cr Kuhl said.
The committee meets four to five times a year and met in Mount Isa on Thursday.
Mr Beveridge said it was a chance to exchange news from across the region.
“We’re finding there is a lot of common ground with water, roads, transport, telecommunications and energy,” he said.
“Northern Queensland is underrepresented in federal parliament so we’re another voice.”
RDA Townsville and North West Queensland covers 15 local government areas – Boulia, Burdekin, Burke, Carpentaria, Charters Towers, Cloncurry, Doomadgee, Flinders, Hinchinbrook, McKinlay, Mornington, Mount Isa, Palm Island, Richmond and Townsville.
