Genia arrived in Australia on Tuesday following his spell in Paris with Stade Francais, and joined his Wallabies teammates on Sunday afternoon ahead of their Test against Fiji this weekend.

There has been plenty made of Genia's desire to come back to the Reds, with some reports indicating the club has turned its back on one of their own.

Genia was in an upbeat mood when discussing his chance of returning to Ballymore next season, saying his management, the Reds and the Australian Rugby Union were working hard to get a deal across the line.

"I've been speaking to them for a while, so that will hopefully eventuate soon," Genia said. "The intent is to come back home and fingers crossed that happens."

Asked whether a deal with the Reds was more likely now than a few weeks ago, Genia said: "Yeah, I think it is. There's a few things that need to happen that I can't really speak too much on, but the most important thing is there's intent from myself and Australian rugby that we want to make it happen and hopefully it does."

Genia is so hell-bent on playing for the Reds, he says he won't consider playing for another Super Rugby team.

"If I come home it's to Queensland or probably just stay in Paris," Genia said. "I love playing for Queensland, I always have. I started there and finished my Australian rugby career there so hopefully we can get something done and I can come back and maybe finish up there."

Genia has had a long season in the Top 14 and could be forgiven for wanting to sit out the Wallabies' upcoming Tests against Fiji, Scotland and Italy.

But after a few chats with coach Michael Cheika in Paris, Genia made it clear he wanted to come back and contribute to the team he has represented on 75 occasions.

"I just told him I was keen if my body was all right and everything was feeling good I'd like to play," Genia said. "I feel like I'm good on the back of a long season. I'm a little bit fatigued but the excitement levels of just being apart of a national set-up gets you through.

"The hunger and the drive to come back and still contribute to Australian rugby is well and truly alive in me and I feel like I can contribute. If I didn't feel I could come back and make a difference, I wouldn't come back.

"It's pretty tiring but the biggest thing is coming back and being in the group and in around the guys is quite refreshing in itself. I feel it's refreshed me and given me a new energy to want to come back and contribute."

Genia admits he has not watched a single minute of Super Rugby this year because he did not own a television when he lived in Paris.

Of course, he has followed results and is aware of the tumultuous season Australian sides have had.

Genia is excited by what he has seen, after one training session, from young guns Joe Powell and Jake Gordon and refuted the suggestion the other two halfbacks were merely "back-ups".

"I wouldn't say they're back-ups, everyone's competing for a spot," Genia said. "I've heard they've been playing really, really well. In particular, Joey Powell has had a really good season, so it's going to be a good competition for the three of us to see who gets the game-day spots in the 23."
