Police are urging Mount Isa residents to make contact with their neighbours and family, particularly elderly residents, following a series of burglaries over the weekend.

Details of nine burglaries between June 1 – 5 have been released, as follows.
Thursday, June 1
– Between 9.15pm and 8.30am the next day, offenders opened a rear bedroom window at a residence on Fourth Avenue Mount Isa, and stole an iPad from the bedroom and a mobile phone and second iPad from the living room.
– Between 10pm and 7.30am the following day, offenders entered an unlocked caravan at a caravan park and removed a Samsung galaxy mobile phone and $30 cash.
Friday, June 2
– On the morning of June 2 a sum of cash was stolen from a purse at Kookaburra street, where offenders entered via an open front door while the victim was in the backyard.
– Between 10.20am and 11am on June 2, offenders entered a Trainor Street residence via an unlocked door, and rummaged through drawers, however no property was stolen.
Saturday, June 3
– Between June 3 and June 5 offenders entered a house at Kaeser Road by smashing a kitchen window. No property was reported stolen.
Sunday, June 4
– Between 3am and 3.15am, offenders entered a house on Miles Street via an unlocked front door. The offenders entered a bedroom and woken the victim who screamed, at which time they left the dwelling.
Monday, June 5
– Between 3am and 3.15am, offenders attempted to enter a house on Bougainville Street by turning off the power switches at the power box, and cutting the mesh screen to a kitchen window.
- The offender was unsuccessful in entering via the window, and went to the front of the property.
- The victim opened the front door and sighted the offender crouched down near the front door, and the offender fled from the property.
– Between 4am and 5am on June 5, offenders entered a house on West Street via an open back door and removed a sum of coins from the kitchen table.
- Offenders removed four bottles of spirits before they were disturbed by a resident who chased them from the house.
- Offenders fled the house and dropped two bottles while escaping.
– Between 1am and 9am on June 5, offenders entered a flat on Miles Street by opening the front glass sliding door.
- Offenders removed a wallet from the TV cabinet, and a money box from the lounge room.
Police are urging community members to:
- Make contact with your neighbours and have a conversation about locking doors and windows
- Inspect the security features at your residence, and consider whether any upgrades are necessary.
