With just over a week to go before the Cloncurry Show, the Shire’s mayor said they were “super excited” about the C150 steam train coming to town with a special visitor planned for the show itself.

“The steam train turns up on Thursday afternoon June 15, after that will be the cattleman’s dinner which is always a huge success,” Cloncurry mayor Greg Campbell said.
“Then on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning at the Show we will be very pleased to host the Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove.”

The arrival Governor-General adds to the many upcoming attractions in the region with the Stockmans Chellenge, the Merry Muster and then the C150 celebrations in September.
Things are positive too in the economic front, the mayor said.
“MMG had some interview sessions in Cloncurry last week so we’ll be interested to see how that went and how many local jobs fell out of that first round,” he said.
“We’ll keeping working with MMG to maximise their local employment.”
There is plenty going in works in town as well.
Cr Campbell said Stage 1 of the Shaeffe St upgrade was improving underground services with stormwater pipes so that in storm season water can be taken away to Coppermine Creek effectively.
“Once the pipes are in the pavement gets rehabilitated and it’s been timed to coincide with the new disabled ramp entrance to the Bowls Club as well – the two projects are working in well together.”
Cr Campbell said works to upgrade the lookout west of town were also underway.
“We got funding from the state under the scenic lookout grant program , it’s going to improve access and have seating and lighting as well.”
Speaking in Mount Isa for a meeting of the Region of Councils, Cloncurry Mayor Greg Campbell said the meeting was very productive and looked to take the region forward.
Cr Campbell also attended the meeting Regional Development Australia Townsville and North West Queensland committee while he was in town and joined the committee.
