But Tuggeranong Bushrangers front-rower Brett Solomon is itching for his chance to play against Samoa and Scotland in World Cup warm-up matches after being picked in a country championships side..
He said would be fun and exciting to play against some of the NRL's best.
"We know it's going to be a good challenge because we're playing high quality opponents," Solomon said.
"They're trying to give us under-23s players a potential pathway into the NRL. There's no better way to do that than putting us up against professionals.
"It's going to be fun seeing how we go against those NRL players. I'm excited."
Solomon is one of ten Monaro representative players selected in the squad after they won the inaugural under 23's country championship title last weekend
The team, made up of Canberra Raiders Cup players, beat the Newcastle Rebels 18-14 in Charlestown.
Monaro were winning 18-6 before Newcastle clawed their way back into the game, cutting the lead to just four points with 10 minutes to play. But the ACT representative side managed to hold on for the win.
"It's a massive achievement for Monaro to be the first under 23s team to take out the country championship," Solomon said.
"The momentum shifted multiple times throughout the game. We did well as a team to hold on. We all looked at each other and didn't want to let it go.
"Since week one we knew we were a quality side and that we could shake up the competition. Winning the grand final wasn't one of our expectations but it's still a massive achievement.
"It all comes back to the team; you need a quality team for individuals to be able to succeed. We've got to thank all 18 players from week one to four that helped the ten players get selected."
