Payne confident on Royal Ascot dream

It had been feared that Payne would be unable to ride for expat trainer Jane Chappel-Hyam on her galloper Kaspersky in the Group One Queen Anne Stakes on June 20 because of immigration issues.

It's often difficult for overseas riders to obtain work visas in the UK, however, immigration officials from the British Home Office have given assurances the jockey will be permitted to fulfil her engagements in England after urgent talks were held..

Payne became known world wide when she became the first female jockeys to win the Melbourne Cup in 2015 and as a result she received many invitations to ride all over the world..

Had she been denied the chance to ride at the Royal meeting it would have been a sad blow for Payne, who missed last year's planned trip after suffering a near life threatening fall at Mildura - an accident which had doctors fearing that she may never ride again.

Australian jockeys have recently fallen foul of increasingly stringent UK border policies.

Some months ago leading apprentice Regan Bayliss _ a group one winning jockey attached to leading Melbourne handler David Hayes - was unable to become licensed to ride in Britain and just last week young rider Ethan Brown was denied entry into England to fulfil a six week job with the powerful Newmarket based William Haggas stable.

Immigration officials at Heathrow maintained that Brown was travelling on a holiday visa but intended to ride in races. They then returned the 18-year-old straight back to Australia.

Payne's intended Royal Asoct mount, Kaspersky, was purchased by Australian interests ahead of the European flat season in a deal organised by Payne and Chappel-Hyam.

Kaspersky, a multiple Group Two winner in Italy and Germany for trainer Enzo Botti, has had two runs for Chappel-Hyam in recent months, the last being an encouraging including placed effort under a big weight at Nottingham over 1700 metres.

It is expected Kaspersky will come to Australia later in the year and Payne will again ride the horse.

And one of the world's leading trainers of stayers Andreas Wohler is now making plans to have his Belmont Cup winner Red Cardinal in Australia for the first Tuesday in November.

On Saturday morning Australian time, Red Cardinal raced away to win the $400,000 Belmont Gold Cup in the United Stakes and in doing so was promoted to a $14.00 favourite for the $6 million handicap.

Wohler is no stranger to the Melbourne Cup as he groomed Protectionist to win the 3200m race in 2014.

Red Cardinal is favourite narrowly ahead of Francis Of Assisi, from the Godolphin string, with last year's winner Almandin at $26.00 to score in successive seasons.
