Coach Ange Postecoglou is in the unusual position of using the South American powerhouse as trial match opponents as he seeks to put the polish on his squad in its final hit-out before the Confederations Cup.

While sticking to their guns and playing their own style is his first priority for the Socceroos - a strategy he hopes will garner a favourable result and a good performance - his main focus is on ensuring his entire squad is cherry ripe before its first assignment in Russia.

That will be on Monday, June 19, when they face Germany, the current world champions - the opening fixture in a flurry of games that also sees Australia face Cameroon in the early hours of the following Friday morning and Chile three days later.

Expect Postecoglou to use several "fringe" players at some point of this game and make multiple substitutions as he looks to give players such as Cahill ,who have not seen first team action for several weeks, precious minutes on the pitch against opponents that will test them like no other.

"It's our final run before we head off to the Confederations Cup and it's a great opportunity to finalise our preparations for the tournament ahead against a good opponent in front of a good crowd and tick some boxes before we head off," Postecoglou told media at a pre-game press conference.

"You want to make the most of it, but the key is not to get too caught up in who the opponent is but making sure you get something out of the exercise ... we try and measure ourselves and play our football against the very best."

He said the key factor about the Brazil game was that it allowed him to use the occasion to "top up some guys who need some game time. A few of the boys their leagues finished a little while back. Some will need 90 minutes, some will need 45, others may not play at all."

He is likely to give back up goalkeeper Mitch Langerak - who is pushing first choice Mat Ryan hard for a spot in the starting line-up - a chance to play, and perhaps even give the third keeper, Sydney's Danny Vukovic, some minutes.

"I hope nobody thinks they are guaranteed to start. Matty has played the majority of the games in recent times, but that's because Mitch was injured for a fair bit of it, we have had injuries to other goalkeepers, Fedders (Adam Federici) and even Eugene (Galekovic) before that.

Cahill is also in line for selection.

"Timmy is one of the ones who will get some game time for sure tomorrow. The A-League finished a while back. To be fair to him he has worked really hard in the meantime.

"He looks in good nick, he needs a run and will get one tomorrow night.

"Ajdin will probably need some minutes going into the Confederations Cup. He will certainly be in the frame for tomorrow. That's why he is here.

"He is looking comfortable at training, I am sure he is keen to get out there. This is his home town and from our perspective this is one of the ones we are looking to get some sort of game time into."

With the Victorian government reportedly set to back a bid for Melbourne to host the last - and potentially crucial - World Cup qualifier against Thailand at AAMI Park on September 5, Postecoglou says he doesn't care where the game is played as long it is at the venue that gives the Socceroos most home ground advantage.

"I think the most important thing for us is the surface. Its very important, we have seen that in recent times. Wherever we are most welcome you would like to think everyone would back us for that most crucial qualifier.

"We have travelled around the country a fair bit since I have been in charge. From that perspective the one thing we want to make sure is we get the right kind of conditions to play our football to give us any home advantage we need."
