Errors have proven costly for the Green Machine in recent weeks, with none more so than their heart-breaking loss to Penrith in Bathurst on Saturday.

They have the bye this weekend, but Roach was confident they would bounce back from when they return against Brisbane at Canberra Stadium Saturday week.

They sit in 10th, but are just two points outside the eight with a guaranteed two points this weekend.

While their loss to the Panthers - where they let in two tries in the final two minutes to lose by just four points - would be enough to rock any team's confidence, Roach said the Raiders had "too many good players" not to hit back.

The ex-Balmain prop said they just needed to string a few wins together and they would be back in the hunt to be a dangerous team in the NRL finals.

He said the Raiders were the type of side that many teams would be worried about playing.

Roach was a fan of the way Canberra plays football, which has made them not only the highest scoring team in the competition but the most tries as well.

A natural down side to their flair is the tendency to make errors, which Raiders great Glenn Lazarus said had allowed their opposition to stay in games they shouldn't.

They've made the fourth most amount of errors in the NRL, but Roach didn't want the Raiders to temper their flamboyance in favour of a safer more-structured type of football.

"I like that they play that flamboyant style. You're going to come away with a few errors, but I'd rather them to play like that than go into their shell and not play any football," he said.

"I think a lot of sides when they play against Canberra have got to go in with the mentality they've got to score 20 to beat them anyway.

"If they cut the opposition down a little bit and still play their flamboyant style they'll be hard to beat."

Roach expected the fact the Raiders have only one player, Josh Papalii, in State of Origin camp at the moment would help them over the coming weeks.

He also felt as a big side they naturally took longer to work their way into a season and would be able to string a few wins together in the run home.

Roach felt the only thing holding them back so far this season was the close losses.

The Raiders have lost three games in extra-time golden point, plus have had seven games decided by a converted-try or less so far this season for only one win - against Parramatta.

"They'll bounce back, they've got too many good players not to. The difference between last year and this season is they won all those close games," Roach said.

"They've battled a bit to win those close ones. [Coach Ricky Stuart]'s a smart bloke and he'll have them ready to play the next time they play."

After the bye, the Raiders face the Broncos and North Queensland before they have another bye, with games against top-four sides Melbourne and St George Illawarra to follow that.

They also have trips to Shark Park and Melbourne on top of that in the run into the finals.

But Roach dismissed the tough run home as irrelevant - every game was a tough one.

"The NRL's tough. I hear all these people saying, 'They've got this game and that game coming up'. It doesn't matter, every game's tough," he said.

"They probably look at the next two weeks and away they go."
