Ms Palaszczuk made the comments as the government ramped up its sell on the 2017-18 budget, announcing demolition was approved for the Go Print site at Woolloongabba for Cross River Rail.

"The election is due next year, that is my intention," she said.

Political pundits have frequently pointed to late October or early November as the likely date as the next election.

It must be held by May and will be the last time a Queensland election date will be up in the air, with fixed four-year terms set to come into effect afterwards.

Ms Palaszczuk has repeatedly ruled out an early election in the past, but anything was possible in politics.

The Queensland government has announced $2.85 billion for Cross River Rail, with a commitment to fund the entire $5.4 billion project if necessary.

"We cannot wait any longer for part funding of Brisbane's Cross River Rail," Ms Palaszczuk said.

Ms Palaszczuk continued her rhetoric of attacking Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Canberra.

Mr Turnbull has previously said states could not keep using the federal government like an "ATM".

"I'm not sure the last time the Prime Minister visited an ATM, but it's that hole in the wall that you use to withdraw money," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"All I'm asking from the Commonwealth government is for our fair share."

But Ms Palaszczuk also said governments worked best when they worked together.

The Premier was positive about how the budget had been received so far.

"I think generally, there is a lot of good comments coming from a cross section of stakeholders right across our state," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"But at the end of the day, this is about the people of our state, this is about Queenslanders, this is about saying that we are tackling issues of housing affordability, we are tackling issues about getting young people into their first home."

Meanwhile, Treasurer Curtis Pitt channelled his inner R Kelly at a Queensland Labor post budget lunch.

"When we said from opposition there was a better way, we meant it, and I believe that's exactly what we've delivered in the three budgets," Mr Pitt said.

"But I believe this one particularly is the third piece of that puzzle.

"It's the one where we've done the hard work for two years and it's allowing us now to spread our wings a little, to get out there, and look at making the right investments at the right time."

Over the next few weeks, Mr Pitt's goal will be to convince Queenslanders to believe his last budget before the next election will touch the sky and soar.

The LNP continued its attack on Labor's budget during Question Time on Wednesday.

Opposition Leader Tim Nicholls launched attacks on increases in handbook fees for Justices of the Peace (up from $19.40 to $32.70) and the Cross River Rail business case, while Shadow Treasurer Scott Emerson criticised the prediction employment would remain at 6 per cent over the next four years and opposition Energy spokesman Michael Hart quizzed the premier on power prices.
