And when it does, he says he expects his attack to be a much more cohesive unit.

Scott was rightly disappointed by the return of his forwards on Thursday night in Geelong's 13-point loss to West Coast at Domain Stadium.

They kicked their lowest score of the season and managed only 10 goals for the game, from the fewest number of forward 50 entries they have had in 12 games: 43.

But even with Mark Blicavs due to return from injury (soreness) and Tom Hawkins from suspension, when the Cats host Fremantle in round 14, Geelong will still be short several of its best attacking options.

And for Scott, it's a story he has told way too often.

"I feel like I have been saying this for a few years," he said. "We just lack continuity in the personnel in our forward line - and if you look at the really good forward lines in the competition - Adelaide is probably the best example, Hawthorn before them - they just had six or seven guys who played together every week, no matter what.

"And for one reason or another, we haven't been able to achieve it. We're optimistic we can get that cohesion at some point."

When that point comes is another matter.

The Crows' Eddie Betts, Taylor Walker, Tom Lynch, Charlie Cameron and Andrew Otten have missed a total of one game between them. That five has booted 118 goals this year. With 210 goals, Adelaide has the most prolific attack and sit on top of the AFL ladder. Only Josh Jenkins, with eight games and 16 goals, has missed games due to a rib injury.

The Cats don't seem too far behind. Hawkins, Daniel Menzel, Patrick Dangerfield, Steven Motlop and Harry Taylor have missed a total of two games between them and kicked a total of 105 goals.

But Geelong hasn't had much luck.

Nakia Cockatoo injured his hamstring in the first quarter on Thursday night after he kicked the first goal of the game. It's the second time in his past three games that he's sat on the bench with the tracksuit top on before the end of the first term.

He missed round 10 with a hamstring issue and is set to miss the next few weeks.

Cockatoo played only 10 games last season due to a knee injury and an adductor issue kept him to 11 appearances in 2015.

Last season, Menzel played 18 games, missing a few with groin issues, but played only two the season prior to that.

With 27 goals from 11 games in 2017, he is a classic example of what a player can achieve when they get a good run at it.

After missing the entire 2015 season with a foot injury, Lincoln McCarthy put together 19 games last season and kicked 19 goals. But a groin injury has seen him restricted to just three games and four goals in 2017. He and youngster Brandan Parfitt are still listed as being a month away from action.

"We do have some personnel that we are looking forward to getting back - not just Hawkins, but we have some small forwards as well; looking forward to getting Parfitt and McCarthy back.

"(Our forward line) wasn't as potent as it could have been in terms of personnel (against the Eagles), but even the personnel we did have we would like to think they could give us a little bit more."

The Cats kicked just two goals in the opening half on Thursday night. Taylor looked much more dangerous in the second half, and kicked 2.2, while Rhys Stanley finished with three and had a hand in two others.
