Renowned for his endurance, Gibson has the longest active consecutive games streak in the AFL, with Friday night's loss to St Kilda his 120th straight game for the Roos since his debut in 2012.

He was among his side's best against the Saints, notching 30 disposals, and is averaging 22.5 disposals for the year.

Yet the one-time Hawthorn rookie said negotiations were yet to begin about a fresh deal.

"Not as yet. It's probably a typical scenario of a 30-plus-year-old. We'll wait and see until later in the year. But I'll just continue to play good footy and the rest of the stuff takes care of itself," Gibson told Fairfax Media.

Unlikely to help his cause is North's decision at the end of last year to transition their list by moving on Brent Harvey, Nick Dal Santo, Michael Firrito and Drew Petrie. Gibson is one of just four players over the age of 30 on the Roos' list. Of the others, Jarrad Waite and Scott Thompson are also out-of-contract, while former skipper Andrew Swallow has a deal for next year, despite languishing in the VFL. Fairfax recently reported that Waite's management was content to wait until late in the year before opening talks about next year.

Potentially complicating matters for the Roos veterans are North's much-publicised plays for star midfielders Josh Kelly and Dustin Martin.

Still, Gibson said he was intent on focusing on his football, hopeful that approach would extend his stay at Arden Street. "I'm still only in my sixth year, so while I'm a bit older than most, I think that I'm still learning, I'm still trying to improve, I'm still excited to get out every week and play footy," he said.

The Roos wasted the ball on Friday night, allowing St Kilda to build a 38-point half-time lead. Gibson lamented his team's early sloppiness.

"We had a long time to think about the Richmond loss, and we really set ourselves for a good game, and to put out that performance was pretty disappointing," he said.

"Our skills errors and inability to use the footy when we had it, that cost us dearly on the turnover.

"[Although] we have to give some credit to St Kilda's pressure.

"I think it's a bit of a snowball effect, you give it to a bloke who's under more pressure than you, and they have to get rid of it, and it just creates more pressure."
