Strike’s maiden drilling program at Burke has encountered extended intersections of very high-grade graphite at shallow depths – including 43 metres at 18.9% Total Graphitic Carbon and 43 metres at 19.3% TGC.
The company says these grades are exceptionally high by Australian standards, with most local graphite explorers developing projects with less than 10% TGC.
The location is already known to host high-grade graphite, with Graphitecorp’s neighbouring Mount Dromedary Graphite Project hosting a JORC Indicated Resource of 5.4 mT at 18.6% TGC (at a 10% TGC cut-off).
Graphite has received increased attention in recent years as it is one of the main ingredients used in lithium-ion electric vehicle batteries with typically more than ten times more graphite in a lithium ion car battery than lithium.
Strike’s previous focus had been on developing a large iron ore project in South America but it is exploring for lithium and graphite in Australia and overseas in Chile.
