Taking on the Black Stars at Eddie Lee Field, the Eagles started the game top of the ladder but expected a tough game from the improving Starries.
The premiers started strongly and had a try denied on four minutes due to a knock on spotted by the ref.
But they were on the board two minutes later when Geoffrey Wilson crashed through and Corey Mosely – who was to have a great game with the boot – converted.
Andrew Lee grabbed his first four pointer on 10 minutes and grabbed another five minutes later after some great interchange play with Leslie Gallagher.
Moseley was unerring both times to make it 18-0.
Halfway through the first stanza the Black Stars got on the board with a slick move that opened up the Eagles on the flanks.
Though Gallagher got his first try after a clever grubber kick from Moseley, the Starries hit back in the corner through winger Jason Taylor.
At 24-10 the visitors were still in the hunt after a half hour on the clock but Anthony Walker barged through the defence to restore a three try lead.
Corey Moseley barged through right on the siren but allowed one of his team mates to ground the ball.
With Moseley’s kick successful the Eagles went in at the break with a commanding 36-10 lead.
Cloncurry went on with it at the start of the second half with slick passing putting Wilson through.
Then came the Starries best spell of the game grabbing two tries in quick succession to narrow the margin to 42-20 on 49 minutes, with plenty of time left for a comeback.
That was as good as it got for them though and they didn’t trouble the scorers again in the game.
Instead it was a masterclass in attacking football from the Cloncurry side who had options everywhere with the crowd geed up by an entertaining play by play call by Keith Douglas.
The Eagles in another seven tries in the remaining half hour of play, with Moseley ending up with 10 out of 10 conversions before handing over duties near the end.
