Her video incorporates quad bikes, water skiing, and boating at Lake Moondarra.
The Good Shepherd Catholic College student will use her prize, a Hero 5 Go Pro donated by Harvey Norman, to capture more action footage while on holiday in Bali. She left for the Indonesian island on Saturday.
Ms Garner intends on entering another video competition in the near future, but this one for school children. The competition is hosted by a Brisbane based St Joseph’s school.
There were 13 entries in the video competition and had to be filmed in North West Queensland.
It was a follow-up competition from the Dirty Little Secret photo competition from last year which was created to generate more positive online content of the region, by focusing on its lifestyle.
Outback at Isa’s business manager Angi Matveyeff said there were less entries in this competition than in the previous one, but was pleased with the success rate considering this competition required video footage instead of photography.
In total there were 225 votes across all entries. 8700 minutes of video were watched and there were 26,500 views across all videos during the month long competition.
The highest amount of views on one day was 10 hours.
Ms Matveyeff said the winner was chosen by industry professionals in the Queensland outback not based in Mount Isa.
They were based outside of the city to ensure no unintentional bias was made in the judging, she said. Although Ms Matveyeff would not identify the judges she assured they were at a state industry level.
“What we asked in the judging criteria was it showcased Mount Isa’s adventurous nature,” Ms Matveyeff said.
She said the judges’ feedback about why Ms Garner’s video was chosen was because it showed all the elements of Mount Isa’s adventurous nature and that it showed family experiences.
“There were so many high quality ones. Some very artistic ones as well.
“I’m glad I was not one of those judges.”
