“So (I) looked and sure enough (there was) a small fire that very quickly took off in the dry grass,” the witness said.
“It was just going under the house fences.”

Mount Isa Police Station’s officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Renee Hanrahan said that the fire was not a police matter.
“An arson for police only relates to a building, structure or vehicle. For us this was only a grass fire. QFES are the lead agency on these ones,” Sergeant Hanrahan said.
A Mount Isa QFES spokesman confirmed that a fire truck and crew put out the grass fire. It covered an area of 20 square metres. Police received the call after 6pm, he said.
