Local resident Kevin Kenna said he had to travel from the airport earlier this month and he could not understand why the disability parking area and pick and drop off area were further from the airport terminal than the long term and hire car parking.
Mr Kenna said the handicap park was 154 metres from the arrivals area and 96 metres from the departures area while the hire car parking was much closer.
“Visiting business people hiring cars are only 10m from the terminal,” Mr Kenna said.
“Why is hire car parking given preference over handicapped and local travellers?”

Mr Kenna also said there was poor signage to direct traffic into car parks and no signs mentioning either departures or arrivals on the terminal building itself.
We put the questions to Mount Isa Airport Chief Operating Officer Kevin Gill.
“In addition to the car park upgrade, Mount Isa Airport has recently installed two new permanent disabled parking bays at the front of the terminal for pick-up/drop-off access,” Mr Gill said.
“The car park and terminal have detailed signage in place to ensure visitors are able to pass through the airport in an efficient manner.”
