Results were fairly spread out for trainers and jockeys but two racehorses trained by Julia Creek’s Tanya Parry secured wins. She secured another two placings as well.
Another Julia Creek trainer, Kerry Krogh, secured one win with racehorse Frisco Journey in the Benchmark 50 Handicap, and another three placings throughout the day.
The Maiden Plate was the first race of the day with the 1100 metre race won by the Parry trained Lady Marmalade.
The three-year-old filly secured her first win of her career while jockeyed by Terrence Hill. They were only 0.3 lengths ahead of the race favourite, Denise Ballard’s Alienate, ridden by Dan Ballard, set at $1.60. The winner’s starting odds were $5.50.
In third place, 1.8 lengths behind the lead, was Parry’s Guacamole, ridden by Keith Ballard.
Up next was the 1100 metre Benchmark 65 Handicap. Trainer Jay Morris got in a win with Wilker. The four-year-old gelding was ridden by Dakota Graham. Their starting odds were set at $3.30.
The leaders were a length ahead of second placer Sussex Street and jockey Rachel Shred. In third place, 0.1 lengths behind Sussex, was Murrumbidgee.
The starting odds favourite, Damgoodchoice, trained by Philip Miller, and jockey Tamara Tincknell were in fourth place and 5.9 lengths behind the lead.
The third race was the 1200 metre Class B handicap, which was won by Cobungra Boy and jockey Rachel Shred.
Shred and Cobungra’s starting price was $5. They barely won by a nose, with The Girls In Paris challenging them for the win.
In third place was favourite Target Strike, trained by Jay Morris and ridden by Steven Galvin.
Their starting price had been set at $2.20 and yet the margin between the leader and Target Strike was calculated to be 3.4 lengths.
The 1350 metre Benchmark 50 Handicap was held next .
Krogh was in control with his trained Frisco Journey winning with jockey Tim Brummell. They were 1.3 lengths ahead of Krogh’s second trainee; Rock Spark.
Frisco had starting odds of $8 while any punter who had bet each way on Rock Spark would have been laughing in delight at his $21 odds.
Carry to Gold, trained by Ken Foord and ridden by Dan Ballard, were 1.8 lengths behind the leader.
Race favourite Mosport, trained by Bob Burow and ridden by Dakota Graham, were far back in ninth position. They were 11.4 lengths behind Frisco Journey.
The final race of the day was the South32 Open Handicap.
The Ballard family were able to claim the win in the 1350 metre race with Travel In Style.
Trainer Denise’s six-year-old gelding led by 0.8 lengths while ridden by Ballard’s son Dan.
They were ahead of second placer Holey Gadoley, which had been the most likely option to win according to the starting odds. The Ray Hermann trained racehorse started at $2.10 while Travel In Style began at $3.30.
What The Heck was in third place and was ridden by Tim Brummell.
They were 2.8 lengths behind the leading racehorse. Their starting odds had been $5.
