Mayor Joyce McCulloch said Council was calling for schools, community groups, businesses and individuals interested in joining the Street Parade, which will run as part of this year’s Isa Street Festival.
“The Street Parade is a chance for the Mount Isa community to come together and celebrate Rodeo Week and start some new traditions,” Cr McCulloch said.
“We would like to encourage as many people as possible to take part in this year’s parade”.
The mayor said being part of the parade was something she would recommend to all schools, community groups, businesses and organisations.
“It’s a rewarding experience to contribute to one of our Mount Isa community’s key events”.
The street parade will travel through the festival on Miles St
There is $7000 of prize money up for grabs for entrants into the parade.
The money will be shared between various categories.
The categories are best overall entry, best school entry, best community group entry, and best walking group entry.
Entries are encouraged on foot, bikes, animals, or cars, or floats.
Due to the nature of the location, no articulated vehicles (semi-trailers) will be permitted but flat bed trucks are fine.
Entry forms, conditions of entry and parade category details can be found on Council’s website: http://www.mountisa.qld.gov.au/isa-street- festival
Interested parade entrants are asked to register by Monday July 31.
The street parade will be held from 6.30pm in the Mount Isa Central Business District on Wednesday August 9 to open up Isa Rodeo Week.
The street parade will replace the old Friday night Mardi Gras held at Buchanan Park last year which the Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo committee said in May it could no longer support this year.
