His call comes after Mornington Island and Doomadgee were included in the scheme which was previously only offered to Cape York communities.
“It’s a start and a step in the right direction. Both Mayors have been fighting hard for this on behalf of their communities,” Mr Katter said.
“Their continued advocacy has helped me keep pressure on the Government for Mornington Island and Doomadgee to be included into the scheme.”
Mr Katter said this would now allow long-term residents living in both communities access to affordable flights under the funding.
He said government-subsided routes, currently delivered by Rex Airlines throughout the Cape were vital for communities who wouldn’t have access to any regular flight service without subsided routes.
“Without subsidised routes there would be no passenger airline services to these communities, so it is vital it continues and is affordable to residents,” he said.
“The next battle which I am determined to win is to address the unaffordable exorbitant airline prices in and out of Mount Isa.
“I am knocking down every door possible, including the governments to find a solution.”

Doomadgee Aboriginal Council Mayor Eric Waldren thanked the Mount Isa MP for his support to the Councils on the issue, saying inclusion into the scheme will provide much need relief for both communities;
“I know Robbie has been pushing for inclusion into the scheme for us as it’s a big issue with residents up here,” Cr Waldren said.
“It’s tough in remote communities with the high cost of living.
“Inclusion will now allow our residents, particularly those who have family living along the coast more freedom to be able to afford to travel, especially in times of family emergencies.”
