He then attacked the State LNP for refusing to play the Katter Party silly and dangerous political games. The Opposition supported the government’s budget which was eventually passed into law.
Let nobody in the North West ever forgive or forget Mr Katter as he tried to stop our State Labor Government from providing $13.million for a solar pumping system to pump the water from Lake Julius to Mount Isa reducing the cost of water to Mount Isa water consumers.
How he tried to stop our government from allocating $2.4m to improve the helicopter rescue service here in the North West.
How he tried to stop our government from investing $2.8 million in the Mica Creek Power station and $7.9 million in upgrades to the Clear Water Lagoon thereby making our drinking water cleaner.
How he wanted to stop our Labor Government from investing $800,000 towards a new hall at the Spinifex College, I wonder if he will inform the teachers and students that when he addresses their next speech night at the college.
How he tried to stop our Labor Government from investing $11.6 million in the local mining industry and he talks about providing jobs.
How he tried to stop the local Fire Service and SES securing improvements to their service here in the North West as well as preventing the millions and millions of dollars allocated to the local Councils in the area.
These are just some of the benefits which Mr Katter tried to prevent coming to our area as he tried to block the Budget.
The greatest danger was that if there was a stalemate in the Parliament and the Government couldn’t get its budget through then there was the real prospect that the State Government would not have the money to pay the wages of the public servants – Police, Nurses, Ambulance and Fire Officers as well as every person employed by the State Government nor would they be able to employ contractors creating so much unemployment, Not a nice prospect.
Mr Katter and the Katter Party were prepared to create havoc in our State simply to try to prove that they were tough. Well they were not tough they were irresponsible, silly and dangerous and don’t deserve the support of the people who they are supposed to represent.
I would suggest that Mr Katter and the Katter Party have a little history lesson and see the damage that was done to Australia when the Federal Coalition
Created the same situation in 1975 when they refused to pass the Budget it was not the best time in the history of Australia.
