One Nation’s Queensland candidates met for a two day conference in Brisbane over the weekend to strategically plan winning the next state election however there was no representative from the north west among them.
One Nation Queensland leader and Member for Buderim Steve Dickson MP said it was uplifting to have One Nation candidates from the Cook electorate to the Gold Coast and western Queensland get together.
“We have a strong, dynamic group of candidates who would make excellent representatives for their electorates in the Queensland Parliament,” Mr Dickson said.
“It is expected that the latest opinion poll showing a six percent slump in support for the Coalition federally, will be reflected at the Queensland state election.”
Around 40 candidates were at the Brisbane forum but none were there to represent the new seat of Traeger which takes in Mount Isa to Charters Towers.
A party spokesperson said several “strong candidates” had put up their hands but they were still welcoming applications to stand for the seat.
One Nation are not alone with neither Labor nor the LNP nominating a candidate either so far.
KAP state leader Robbie Katter is expected to renominate for the seat of Traeger after his seat of Mount Isa was abolished while fellow KAP MP Shane Knuth is going to battle for the new seat of Hill after his Charters Towers seat of Dalrymple was abolished in the redistributions earlier this year.
The election must be called by May 5, 2018 and many pundits believe Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk will call an election this year despite strenuous denials by the government.
After that Queensland will move to fixed four year terms.
