Mount Isa City Council held its annual Camooweal meeting on June 28.
Colin Gates raised the dog situation in Camooweal noting an animal cruelty case had been reported to Mount Isa City Council and RSPCA in Cloncurry.
Council told Mr Gates the dog issue was being taken seriously and explained strategies addressing the issue.
The meeting heard there was no RSPCA in Cloncurry however an office of Department of Primary Industries exists.
Ben Knight, Camooweal Roadhouse queried content included on Council’s Website and who was responsible for Tourism.
Mr Knight said he did not have any brochures on Mount Isa and Camooweal was the Gateway to Mount Isa.
He also raised concerns regarding the Camooweal Dump especially poly pipe dumped after a truck accident.
Mr Knight asked about the replacement of Council’s Camooweal agent and raised concerns about the free camping on the River - amount of time campers are staying, use of free water, dump points and refuse collection.
Council said it would request Mount Isa Tourism Association to connect with Camooweal residents and Outback at Isa to touch base with Camooweal tourism operators.
They said the vacant Camooweal position is being reviewed by their HR department and the Camooweal waste facility issues were being followed up by the relevant Council department.
Council said it would workshop the free camping issue and consult the community on “a workable solution for all”.
Local Gemma Catchpole raised concerns about the children's playground and sand pit and enquired if it were possible to have a bike path installed.
She also asked if Council would support the school’s 125 years anniversary in June 2018.
Council’s Parks and Gardens department will fix the waste issue at the park and plans for a bike path is reviewed as requested.
Another local Kay Ballard raised an issue about low water pressure in Camooweal and the meeting heard calcification may cause issues by blocking filters within the water pipes.
Council plumbers will inspect the Council side of water meters.
