Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 1734 head on July 12, which included 576 prime cattle and 1158 store cattle.

The prime cattle consisted of 157 bullocks, 47 heifers, 270 cows and 102 bulls, while the store cattle consisted of 565 steers, 542 heifers and 51 x 51 cows and calves.
Cattle comprised of a couple of lines of heavy processing cattle supported by small lots of local cattle.
The yarding was drawn from Burketown, Normanton, Richmond, Hughenden, local and coastal area.
Bullocks were quoted 2-5c dearer, Heifers were 6-10c dearer and Cows were 4-10c easier, bulls eased 10-20c on last week’s rates.
The prime quotes saw bullocks topped at 272c/kg for a pen of eight Brahman Ox, sold on account of Bluegrass Cattle Co, that weighed 572kg to return $1,558 per head.
Best priced trade heifers were presented on account of FW and RA Blacklock which made 253c/kg to weigh 340kg and return $860 per head.
The top pen of cows sold by Bart Rutherford, Charters Towers for 226c/kg and weighed 630kg to return $1,425 per head.
Bulls sold on behalf of Matt and Sonia Bennetto, Virginia Park, Charters Towers, topped at 245c/kg and weighed 790kg return $1,937 per head.
Store cattle made up a bigger percentage of the yarding and were mostly in good condition, selling to a wide gallery of buyers.
Lighter steers eased by 5 - 7c/kg with the heavier end up 5 – 7c/kg and heifers improved by 2 - 5c/kg.
A pen of 28 steers on account of D Hunt and L Griffiths, Rycon, Einasleigh, made 376c/kg and weighed 135kg and realised $510 per head.
A good pen of 32 heifers on behalf of Zonia Downs Pastoral Co, Barkla, Charters Towers, made 286c/kg, weighed 178kg and returned a good average of $509 per head.
48 x 48 cows and calves sold on behalf of Deas Building Service, Georgetown, returned $1,360 per unit.
