Cr Brad Rix clarified that support meant “openly opposing” any potential job losses in the railway industry.
The addition to the operational plan was included when Cr Damien McGee said in council that Aurizon was offering to sell local residential properties to employees.
Aurizon was reached for comment to confirm.
Cloncurry mayor Greg Campbell said after the council meeting; “Cloncurry is a major base for Queensland Rail track staff and Aurizon train drivers, which are a critical part of our community.
“So we will be encouraging, especially mines when they are renegotiating contracts, how important having those staff based locally is to the council and the community.
The operational plan is what Cr Campbell described “almost like the bible” for council staff. It helped them gauge the direction of operations that councillors expected them to take.
