THE Cloncurry Indigenous community celebrated the end of their Naidoc celebrations with a gala dinner held last Saturday night.

Cloncurry Naidoc committee member Larinda Turrell said there were about 180 people in attendance.
They were entertained by the Kalkutungu Sundowners dance troup and Big Eye Theatre dancers.
Ms Turrell thanked the sponsors that were involved in Cloncurry’s Naidoc Week celebrations which had included the march, comedy night and careers day.
Past and present achievements from the Indigenous community were also recognised at the gala dinner.
Categories were sports, media and arts, government and academic achievements. There were 21 recipients on the honour roll and this included boxer Alfie Clay, rugby league player Shane Pardon, solicitor Maria Sullivan, and Gail Laffin in teaching.
Ms Sullivan, a Legal Aid solicitor who specialises in family law, was also a guest speaker at the Naidoc careers day. Triple J Unearthed winner and hip-hop artist Joseph Dargan was also a recipient in media and arts. “It’s good to be recognised in my home town,” he said.
