For the first time this year three athletes have managed to accomplish the Perfect five from five personal bests (PBs). It was high pressure in the 11-year-group when entering their final Javelin event as three of the group were on four from four.
Tia Peel and Milla Van Lelyveld emerged victorious after honing their skills during the event. Connor Howard however tragically three fouled in an effort to get a big one in.
Ten-year-old Preston Lehmann’s regular attendance to club training has paid off crowning him as the third five from fiver for the day.
Others on the list of near misses posting four PB’s from five were Charlie Dredge, Harley Murphy and closest of all, master athlete Ruth Chandler who fell only four centimetres short with the shot put.
Six-year-old Abbi Green will have all her accumulated Legend certificates totalling presented this Saturday. Abbi is now only two certificates short of receiving the seldom awarded ‘Total Legend’ trophy for athletes who qualify for Legend certificates in every event available to them.
Kadea O’Donnell would have been thankful of the low numbers in the 12-year-group as she stepped up to race the 100m with the 13-year-olds. The new competition pushed her to a Legend qualifier of 15.0 seconds
Others to receive certificates will be Charlie Dredge, Cooper Hanson, Kailan Turner, Macklin Kretschmann and Tia Peel
Hayley Greaves Amazing Discus skills will see her awarded this week’s ‘Mighty Minion’ award
Many athletes will now be intensifying their training for the next big thing on the athletics calendar the Outback Sunset Carnival in Longreach on Rodeo weekend August 12 and 13.
The Longreach meet is an ANQ event which incorporates the schools Regional Championships where athletes vie for the opportunity to represent the North West Region at the schools state championships.
Club days continue each Saturday at Sunset Park from 2pm.
