The funds raised from drivers and their vehicles would go to the Royal Flying Doctor Service, an organisation which helped the car rally visit more remote locations with permission from station owners.
Last Monday night the rally stayed the night at the Boulia Hotel, where they were hosted by publicans Max and Jane Smith. They were entertained by country singer Ali-S.
The following day they travelled from Boulia to Cloncurry. The organisers leading the rally reached the town by mid afternoon. In ‘the friendly heart’ the rally was hosted by the Oasis Caravan Park, Gidgee Inn and the Lions Club.
Rally drivers visited the John Flynn Place museum – dedicated to the founder of the RFDS – on Wednesday morning before heading north.
The theme of this year’s rally was ‘gangster’.
General practitioner Roger Warne, a regular rally member from regional Victoria, said he loved the adventure.
“I just love the outback. I love the people and I just love what they are doing.”
