Secretary of the Mount Isa Area Tenpin Bowling Association (MIATBA), Chloe Smith, said there has been an influx of new members for its several different leagues.
The Saturday singles divisional league is still the biggest, including a number of bowlers who have been with the club for many years.
“They are such exceptional bowlers, I honestly can’t believe how well they bowl,” Smith said.
“If there’s anybody interested in bowling in a singles league, please come down.
Jason Belmonte started out as a 2-year-old in Australia, just bowling for fun, and now he’s one of the best bowlers in the world. So anyone can do it!

“We also have many players who have teaching qualifications so if anyone needs coaching, we can get coaching organised as well.”
Membership for one year is only $33, which you can register online through TBA.
Your membership also gives you benefits and discounts to stores and services Australia-wide, Smith said.
“TBA is Australia wide, it’s not just Queensland.”
“And those who follow ESPN sports, Jason Belmonte from Orange in NSW is Australia’s number one bowler, and he’s just won the ESP-wide best bowler of the year award.
“He started out as a 2-year-old in Australia, just bowling for fun, and now he’s one of the best bowlers in the world. So anyone can do it!” Smith said.
Wednesday’s league is open for doubles, regardless of gender.
Each league also accommodates for night shift workers, said Smith.
“We have a lot of night shift workers bowling, in every single league. Wednesdays start at 7pm, and most bowlers get here 20 minutes beforehand to warm up."
Once you’ve paid your annual membership through TBA, the only cost is the games themselves.
League members pay $16.50 for three games, compared to $25 for non-members.
Smith said with many new members this season, there are many who would love to have some coaching done.
Smith has been part of the club for four years but is new to playing, having picked up a bowling ball just a few weeks ago.
Mount Isa Area Tenpin Bowling Association Inc is on Facebook, or find them at Ten Pin Bowling Alley on Abel Smith Parade, most nights.
