The group received nearly $50,000 funding from Mount Isa Mines to repair the two huts and purchase office furniture.
Building works have included repairs and painting of the external buildings, repairs to the hut floor, repairs to toilets, internal painting and new lino throughout the buildings.
With around 40 current youth members, a waiting list for Junior Guides, and seven volunteer leaders, the upgrades will allow them to increase both members and volunteers.
District Manager, Glenys Smith said she’s very pleased with the refurbishment.
“The huts are colourful and inviting, and a wonderful environment for the girls to meet each week,” Mrs Smith said.
“We’re continually fundraising throughout the year but it’s not nearly enough for infrastructure refurbishments, so this grant has been hugely beneficial,” she said.
“We hope that more members of the community will be able to enjoy the space in the future.”
Other community groups who use the Guide Huts will also benefit from the refurbishment.
Mount Isa Girl Guides was established in the 1970s with a strong culture of empowering girls and young women to grow into confident, self-respecting and responsible community members.
Today, Girl Guides Queensland is the largest youth organisation for girls and young women in Queensland with almost 6000 youth members and more than 1000 volunteer leaders and members.
