On Wednesday the beauty therapist held a free morning tea for the home’s elderly residents. The fundraising aspect was the multi-draw raffle which was well backed by the business community.
“It’s not about making money today (Wednesday),” Ms Miller said. “I am happy with a dollar or not, I am just enjoying spending time with everybody today.”
The home’s facility manager Betty Kiernan said that Ms Miller had done more than just raise money for the home. “She has really connected with residents. They get the real personal connection with her,” she said.
The Laura Johnson Home board had plans to use the money raised for more medical equipment.
The home was also in the process of connecting to Wi Fi. “Partly for senior staff so that whatever they are doing with residents is immediately put on the system,” Ms Kiernan said.
“And we are looking at benefits for staff. We hope to replace our piano.
“We’ve always got a nice wish list.”
