The AWOP system (Another Way of Paying) will allow rodeo-goers to pay for items on site by wearing a wristband pre-loaded with funds.
Benefits include increased security for patrons (can’t lose wallet or money) and the rodeo (less cash on site).
Time in queues will also decrease, as the AWOP system is faster than cash payments.
If you go to events like the Gympie Muster and Woodford Festival, this is how payments are managed.
Mount Isa Rodeo patrons will be given a wristband when entering the rodeo for the first time.
The next step is to visit one of the kiosks (which are located throughout Buchanan Park) and deposit funds.
Users will be charged a one-off top up fee of $2.50.
You can then use your wristband to buy any item on site.
All bars will be 100 per cent cashless and all food stalls will accept payment by wristband.
On your way out, you will stop by a kiosk again to refund any remaining cash on your wristband.
Online refunds will be available after rodeo at www.awop.co.nz until Thursday August 31, if you forget your remaining cash when exiting the event.
The transactions take 0.2 seconds to process, which will lessen the time spent in queues for patrons.
There is no need to carry your wallet around and it is harder to lose than cash.
You can register your wristband online for a refund as soon as you receive it.
This means you have no chance of forgetting your refund and it will be paid into your account after the event.
